I figure I’ll do these whenever I leave the house and therefore see things. That doesn’t really happen on weekends, thus the delay. Hopefully the delay was from thus.
Strange things I saw today (mostly today):
1.
There was some rain last night but very few puddles this morning. That’s because it all went to the UB South Campus Bus Circle. Due to the fact that the circle is on a slope, it was seriously a veritable lake. Or a bay, I suppose. There was about six to eight inches of water, which was particularly amazing given that there were literally NO puddles anywhere else I saw.
2.
This crazy guy I see on the bus is always sitting by himself. Because, well, he’s crazy. Who wants to sit next to an absolutely huge guy (maybe 250 pounds, much of it muscle) whose teeth jut outwards and who talks to himself constantly, laughing and crying? I often actually end up sitting next to him. Not that I’m seeking him out or anything, though he is interesting, at any rate. It’s more that I think I just don’t go out of my way to avoid him like some people.
Anyway, this one time, he and I were both sitting at the back of the bus near this group of high school girls who were being loud and raucous and dirty. So obscene were their jokes that the crazy fellow got up and, with a shake of his head, left to find a seat towards the other end of the bus. First time I’ve ever seen Talking Crazy Teeth (his Native American name) move because he was bothered by other people, instead of the other way around.
3.
There’s a place on the way to work called The 55 CafĂ©. It’s at 5500 Main St., which I guess got shortened to 55. I imagine this as a restaurant in a parallel dimension where authors would get together and discuss their tiny writings (and drink shots of course, no tall glasses). Instead it is usually deserted. And I’m the only 55er in Buffalo. On the other hand, that’s why there’s an internet.
